Komphela Appointed as Sundowns Senior Coach

After the departure of Pitso Mosimane, the reigning Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions Mamelodi Sundowns has announced that former Golden Arrows coach Steve Komphela is a “First Team Senior Coach reporting to the Joint Head Coaches, Manqoba Mngqithi and Rhulani Mokwena.

Komphela, aged 53 confirmed that he has resigned as Arrows coach and thanked the club boss Mato Madlala. “I would like to express my deep gratitude to the chairperson of Lamontville Golden Arrows, Mato Madlala and to Golden Arrows FC for their support and encouragement to me whilst I was head coach of Golden Arrows”.

Mngqithi and Mokwena were appointed as coaches last week .Mngqithi is given deciding powers after Mosimane left the club to join Egyptian side Al Ahly.

On the offer Komphela received from the Chloorkop side, he said “I have been given an exciting opportunity to join Mamelodi Sundowns as senior coach and to work with its joint head coaches, Manqoba Mnqithi and Rhulani Mokwena”.

Sundowns ended the 2019/20 season with a bang with three trophies and Komphela said he hope to add to that success.

“I look forward to this exciting challenge and hope to contribute to the growth and success of Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa and on the African continent.”
