Mining Affected Communities United in Action (MACUA) and Women Affected by Mining United in Action(WAMUA) launched a campaign which ran across the nation in May to collect a Hundred thousand signatures from affected communities. This campaign is set to take form in a March to the Union Building in Pretoria.
The mining communities are calling on the President Cyril Ramaphosa, Minister of Mineral resources and Energy Gwede Mantashe and the Chairperson of the parliamentary portfolio committee on mineral resources to take steps to make sure that the concerns and voices of mining affected communities are highlighted in the mining related legislation.
A petition with Fifty thousand signatures will be delivered on October 12th at the Union Building in Pretoria . This will be recognized as the first step towards ensuring that the constitutional rights to Free prior and Informed consent is recognized in mining laws.
