Four accused police officers to appear in court

The four police officers, Sergeant Kubheka, Constable Mtshali, Constable Kunene and Constable Gumede accused of beating to death a 49 year old-man, will appear in the Johannesburg High Court from Monday the 05 October 2020 to 23 October 2020.

They are accused of assaulting other two people whilst in police custody on the 10 March 2019 in Katlehong North.  

It is alleged that the police arrested an allegedly drunk driver and other two people who were passengers in the vehicle. It is further alleged that the victims were arrested for interfering with police duties.

There are allegations that the police officers kicked, beaten and even poured water on the victim’s faces.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) investigated this matter and recommended that criminal charges be instituted against the accused police officers.

The four police officers are currently out on bail of R5000 each.
