A 58-year- old ward councillor will appear at the Bolobedu Magistrate Court in Limpopo on Monday for allegedly raping a 14-yea-old girl at Rampepe Village. He was arrested at Mokwakwaila on Saturday.
Police Spokespersom Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the victim was allegedly offered a lift by the suspect on Thursday, 01 October 2020 at about 12:00.
”The suspect then drove into the bushes next to Rampepe village where he allegedly raped the child. He thereafter reportedly took her home, gave her money and a cellphone and told her not to tell anyone.” Said Mojapelo.
When her mother started asking her about the cellphone, she allegedly started crying. Mojapelo said she then told her what happened. The matter was reported to the police and the Councillor was arrested last night.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba said leaders in society should join hands with the police in fighting gender- based violence.
