As the multimillion-rand State Capture Commission of Inquiry is continuing, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have called upon Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo to subpoena the minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan.
This comes after Zondo started a commission on Monday by addressing the former President Jacob Zuma’s appearance. He said he will not be discussing dates with Zuma’s legal team nor witnesses. Visibly irritated on Monday, Zondo gave Zuma “non-negotiable” dates from 16 – 20 November 2020 to appear at the commission.
The EFF maintains that the same energy should be given to Gordhan. In a letter to Zondo dated 22 September 2020 which Just News Africa has seen, the EFF attorneys are saying since Gordhan could not appear before the commission on 12 August 2020 and postponed to 31 August 2020 due to “cabinet commitments”, he should be issued with summons to attend the commission as soon as possible.
“We humbly request that the Commission deal with Mr Gordhan in the same fashion that it is dealing with Mr Zuma” read a letter written by EFF’s legal team.
