Pensioner Murdered, Police Hunt Suspect(s)

The Police in Polokwane in Limpopo have launched a manhunt for unknown suspect(s) responsible for the brutal murder of an 80-year-old woman. Jacoba Grobler’s body was found at her house, at Koraal old age complex in Polokwane on Monday.

The police said their preliminary police investigations revealed that the suspects entered the house and severely assaulted her. Grobler’s body was found by her friend who called the police.

“On arrival, we found the deceased lying on the bed with open wounds which might have possibly been caused by a blunt object. The deceased’s laptop and cellphone are missing.” Said the Police Spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo in a statement.

The provincial social development MEC Nkakareng Rakgoale said she is disturbed by this murder and said what has transpired undermines the Older Persons Act, which is intended to protect, promote and maintain the status, rights, well-being and security of older persons.” Old age homes and villages have  been solely established to create a safer environment for older persons.”

Social workers have been deployed to the retirement village to provide psychosocial support to all people who have been affected by the incident.
