Five suspects arrested in connection with the 2018 murder in Winterveld, North of Pretoria, of a VIP Protection Sergeant, Thomas Mashimbye, appeared in the Garankuwa Magistrates Court on Monday.
The five were arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning (19 September 2020) at Mogogelo, Winterveldt and Soshanguve East Extension by the Directorate For Priority Crime Investigation (HAWKS) and other law enforcement agencies. They face charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Mashimbye was allegedly attacked by three armed assailants while asleep at his home with his wife and two children. He died on the scene after he was shot several times. The wife and children were not harmed.
The attacker stole some household items and cash before fleeing the scene.
The matter was postponed to 07 October 2020 for bail application.
