The police have launched a search for a suspect(s) after the discovery of the bodies of two children aged 6 and 8 on Saturday morning ,19 September 2020 around 05h00 in Orange Farm in Gauteng Province.
A 24 year- old mother went to the Orange Farm Police Station at around 02h30 on Saturday morning to report that her six -year-old and an 8-year-old girl who is a family friend were missing.
Police launched an immediate search for the two children who, according to the complainant, were last seen on Friday evening (18 September 2020) around 19h00 when they were allegedly walking home from a hair salon.
The Police in a statement said they received a call at around 05h00am about the body of a child on the street, and shortly after that a passer-by discovered the second body about 100 metres from the other one.
The children were certified dead by paramedics. The motive for the killing of the little boy and the little girl is yet to be determined, while a post- mortem will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
The police said the investigation into this double murder will be prioritised and escalated to the Provincial Investigating Unit
Parents are urged to prioritise the safety of their children at all times and to always be aware of the children’s whereabouts. “Children walking in the streets at night must be prohibited otherwise they must be accompanied.”
