The Hawks in Limpopo have successfully worked on a case against 37- year-old police sergeant on corruption.

Mahlora Harry Nchabeleng was sentenced to four (4) years direct imprisonment for corruption by the Tzaanen Magistrate Court on Friday.

The provincial Hawks spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke said Nchabeleng from Mankweng police station, was entrusted to investigate money market-related fraud in October 2016 which occurred at Paledi Shoprite in Mankweng.

Nchabeleng worked well and he successfully traced the suspect but instead of arresting him, he demanded a R3000 bribe to make the derail investigation.

The matter was reported to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation by the complainant and Nchabeleng was subsequently arrested at his workplace in July 2018. He was granted R1000 bail until the court found him guilty.

The Provincial Head of the DPCI Major General Thobeka Jozi has welcomed the sentence and is hoping that it will serve as a warning to other SAPS members who are involved in corrupt activities.
