20th Annual Steve Biko Memorial Lecture

The founder and Executive trustee of the Steve Biko foundation Nkosinathi Biko and Vice Chancellor of UNISA Mandla Makhanya have announced that the 20th Annual Steve Biko Memorial lecture will be delivered by Reverend Al Sharpton virtually on Sunday September 12th.  The lecture is significantly in line with the 43rd commemoration of the murder in detention of Steve Biko.

The virtual memorial lecture will be broadcasted on the following news channels, SABC, eNCA and Newzroom Africa.

Reverend Sharpton is known as a renowned and outspoken civil rights activist who has been at the forefront of past battles against racial discrimination. He was born in New York  and ordained as a Minister in the Pentecostal Church. The Reverend is also the founder of the National Youth Movement and of the National Action Network. 

Founder and Executive of the Trustee of the Steve Biko foundation, Mr Nkosinathi Biko had this to say-” In line with our international tradition, we have on this occasion also Reverend Sharpton to reflect on his and the general history of activism against the injustices perpetrated on the Black body, and to link the question of the outstanding amends for the historic atrocities to the present financial crisis, particularly as Africa and the Diaspora reboot their ravaged economies following the pandemic. “
