Police arrested more than one thousand two hundred and thirty (1230) suspects over the weekend for various crimes committed around Gauteng.
Two hundred and sixty-four (264) suspects were arrested at Westrand. Arrested suspects were charged with arson, sexual assault, house breaking and theft, possession of unlicensed firearm, possession of drugs and fraud, amongst other crimes.
Four hundred and fifty (450) suspects were arrested in Tshwane District during multidisciplinary operations. The operations led to the closure of five illegal shebeens .More than forty five (45) people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and for illegal gathering.
Three hundred and fifty-six (356) suspects were arrested in Ekurhuleni as men and women in blue continued to perform their mandatory duties. Thirteen (13) of these suspects were those that still drive while under the influence of alcohol. While nineteen (19) were for possession of drugs and other illegal substances
Meanwhile, one hundred and sixty (160) suspects were arrested in Johannesburg District for various offences during crime combating operations.
