The Department of Correctional Services on Saturday reported 351 active Covid-19 cases, comprising of 133 inmates and 218 officials.
The 14 additional cases of officials: 9 Free State & Northern Cape, 2 Gauteng ,2 KwaZulu-Natal – 2 and 1 from Eastern Cape. The 9 additional cases of inmates emanate from 3 Free State & Northern Cape ,3 Western Cape ,3 Gauteng and 1 from Eastern Cape. The recovery rate has increased to 93.1%.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize on Friday said despite ranking 7th for the number of positive cases identified, South Africa rank number 13 for the increasing number of COVID-19 related deaths recorded.
Minister urged people to continue observing health protocols such as social distancing, wearing of masks, sanitizing and washing of hands. Mkhize also cautioned against sharing of drinks, cigarettes, cigars, shisha pipes (“hubbly bubbly”).
Minister reiterated that threat of a second wave remains very real.
