The gender-based violence in South Africa keeps on growing. This comes after a 17- year-old lost her life in the hands of a 19-year-old man in Ga-Madiba Village outside Mahwelereng in the Mokgalakwena Municipal area in Limpopo.
The provincial MEC for Social Development Nkakareng Rakgoale has reacted with “shock” to this murder. The deceased is identified as Ramkone Kale, a grade 12 learner at Ebenezer High School.
The police said she was allegedly killed with a sharp object by the man who is residing in the same village.
“The continuing incidents of the killing of women and children in the province is causing us all sleepless nights. The violence perpetuated against the vulnerable groups of society must just come to an end, more so that every week we speak about these senseless killings that are claiming the lives of our people,” MEC Rakgoale said in a statement.
Rakgoale urged people to resort to peaceful ways of resolving their matters. “The suspect who has been arrested has to go through the criminal justice system and if found guilty a harsher sentence must be meted to serve as a deterrent to would-be abusers of women and children.”
MEC Rakgoale is scheduled to visit the Kale family on Friday (today) at 14:30.
