Three suspects aged between 39 and 30 are expected to appear at the Kuruman Magistrate Court on Tuesday. They are facing charges of armed robbery, stolen goods and possession of unlicensed firearms.
It is alleged that on Saturday, a group of armed robbers stormed into a Markhams store at Kathu Mall and managed to get away with cell-phones, clothes and cash. Another Markham store was robbed on Sunday and cell phones were stolen.
A joint investigating team comprising of the Kuruman Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Crime Prevention, Public Order Policing and Kuruman K9 followed up on information and it led the team to a house at Maruping village. The police recovered a 9mm pistol, safe keys, cellphones, 3 Markhams jackets, pairs of running shoes, cell-phone jammer device and cash.
Three suspects were arrested, one of them was shot on the shoulder after he tried to run away.
Investigations are still continuing.
