SIU freezes accounts of companies linked to PPE scandal

Special Investigating Unit (SIU) on Thursday obtained a court order to freeze the accounts of companies that irregularly obtained PPE tenders from the Gauteng Health Department.

Fourty companies, including Royal Bhaca projets and Lydia structural development, are amongst the companies implicated in a tender scandal which sent shock waves in South Africa.

SIU special Tribunal Judge Billy Mothle issued an order to freeze R 38.7 million that is due for recovery.

Bhaca project is owned by Madikane Thandisizwe Diko, husband of Ramphosa’s spokesperson Khusela Diko, who has been suspended.

Gauteng health MEC Bandile Masuku was instructed to take a leave of absence after his wife was implicated in the tender scandal.
