Accused found with illicit cigarettes remanded in custody

A man who was charged for being in possession of Illicit cigarettes and failure to declare goods was denied bail. Livy Katebe appeared at the Zeerust district court (North west) on Thursday and the matter was postponed to the 15th of September 2020. It is expected that on that date, the defense will make a plea and sentence proposal to the State.

It is alleged that on the 20th of  July 2020 on entering the country on the Kopfontein Border Post between South Africa and Botswana, the police stopped and searched  Katebe’s car.

The Police discovered 152 Master cases, 42 cartons of cigarettes, 200 boxes of apetito tablets, 300 pieces of artificial hair and 4174 cellphone screens.

Further investigations relating to the violation of the Medicine and Related Substance Act are being conducted.

The accused will remain in custody until the next court appearance.
