Former eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede was sworn in as ANC MP in KZN on Wednesdays. Gumede is replacing KZN Spokesperson Ricardo Mthembu who died of Covid 19 on the 8th of July.
Gumede was removed by the ANC in KZN from the mayoral seat after corruption case against her and her 17 co-accused surfaced. She has appeared in the Durban Commercial Crimes Court on charges linked to tender irregularities, valued at R400 million dating back to 2016. The case was postponed to September.
When she was sworn in on Wednesday, Gumede said she will respect and uphold the constitution.
