In a country faced with many rape cases and gender based violence, the police in Malamulele in Limpopo have arrested a 17-year-old suspect for allegedly raping a three-year-old toddler at Mashobye village, on 16 August 2020 at about 15:45. The suspect is said to be the victim’s half brother.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the child was allegedly playing with others kids at home when she disappeared for a while.

“The mother was looking for the victim around the yard, when she found her inside her brother’s room. She immediately became suspicious when looking at the baby and started questioning the brother, fearing the worst might have happened to the child,” statement from the police read.

The mother called the Police and the child was taken to local hospital for medical examinations and it was confirmed that the she was indeed raped. The suspect was then arrested.

The provincial social development MEC Nkakareng Rakgoale has described what the toddler went through as “disgusted and inhumane.”

We have dispatched our social workers to the family to ensure that we give all the necessary support to the victim and all affected parties,” said Rakgoale

She further urged communities to be always vigilant and … know the whereabouts of their children.

The suspect will appear in Malamulele magistrate court soon.
