Several residents of Alexandra in Gauteng are without electricity following an explosion at Vasco da Gama switching substation on Sunday night.
Preliminary investigation suggests that there was an attempted vandalism and theft at the switching substation. This led to an explosion that burnt most of the equipment. Areas affected include from 2nd to 18th Avenue, between Vasco and Hofmeyr.
In a statement issued by City Power, it said five distributors will remain off until repairs and replacements are done. A team was on site to assess and start with repairs on Monday.
Due to the magnitude of the work involved and the mopping up that needs to happen, City Power expect to finish with the repairs by Wednesday. “Unfortunately we are unable to back feed the “affected areas.” Statement read.
