Mnangwagwa calls for Unity

Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Tuesday said “rotten apples” who had tried to divide citizens and weaken his country’s systems would be flushed out. In an address to the nation on Tuesday morning, Mnangagwa called for unity.The President told citizens that the country would overcome “attempts at destabilisation by a few rogue Zimbabweans acting with foreign detractors”

On Friday, security forces were deployed to Zimbabwe’s two main cities, Harare and Bulawayo, to prevent anti-government marches called by activists over corruption and economic hardship.

Social media users across the continent joined the #ZimbabweanLivesMatter campaign to condemn the military-led crackdown and arrests of opposition politicians and journalists in Zimbabwe.
