SA’S Covid-19 exceed half a million

Over half a million people tested positive for Covid-19 in South Africa as of 1st of August, according to the ministry of health. The new 10.107 cases that were recorded in the past 24 hours take the total number of positive cases in the country to 503 290.

With 178119 cases, Gauteng still remains the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak in South Africa, while the Western Cape follows slowly in second place by 96 189 confirmed cases. Kwa Zulu Natal has the third number of cases at 79 607, closely followed by Eastern Cape with 78 782 confirmed cases.

Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said 148 news cases deaths were reported since the previous day’s figures. In those deaths, 41 were from Kwa Zulu Natal, 40 from Gauteng, 36 from Western ape, 24 from Western ape and 7 from Northern ape.  All that taking the number to 8 153.

The ministry said the number of recoveries currently stand at 342 461 which translates to a recovery rate of 68%.

Globally, more than 17.67 million people have been reported to be infected by Covid-19 and 679, 918 people have died.
